RTM.fm - Stream Show

Suitably warmed up, this is the third installment at my new home on RTM.fm.

This month we are well and truly taking it up a notch and exploring the darker and fragmented side of experimental electronics. Joining the show is global collective glitch.cool - I first came across this group a few years ago when I discovered an AV artist from Seoul called CLAUDE, they were posting on their socials a lot of their Touchdesigner works which got me interested in learning it myself - as I dug a bit further I found they released music with this collective.

Their ethos is mostly directed to creating art, be it audio / visual or combined, that navigates towards the hyperglitch mentality. For those unfamiliar, I am not precisely the best to unpack this, but if we think of the origins of glitch that most would be reminded of corrupt files, distorted imagery and fractured electronic sounds. Taking it a step further is a sense of controlled error, for example the approach within sound design that can now carry emotive and melodic points, whilst still remaining harsh by assumption. Imagery to match is exploration into high-resolution renders that has much depth within reflection and caustics. A glitch can be just a single byte or by hyper definition thousands more that create a sincerely complex piece.

Glitch overall is nowadays an incredibly broad stroke of a tag, I mean you will even hear elements now catered techniques within charted popular music.

What I find exciting about glitch.cool is that it has built a strong community around itself of sharing knowledge and encouraging experimentation within their peers and beyond. A lot of the stuff that is made and passed around by the artists and fans is often backed by an open source approach - sharing is caring.

This month the guest mix is a 100% productions mix of material from artists who are glitch.cool founding members - few buried unreleased bits in there too!

On the warm up, I go through some dark harmonic selections that are often frought with fear inducing chimes and environments but also carry additional weight in a broken beat foray.
