2020 may have been a rough year for dance music in Naarm/Melbourne, pretty much devoid of parties and clubs. However, there’s been no shortage of amazing releases put out by locals. It’s been inspiring to see such quality output from the local electronic music community. This list is dedicated to highlighting some of my favourite releases this year from Naarm/Melbourne producers. As we slowly emerge from lockdown here, here’s to hoping they get the airtime they deserve on proper sound systems once dancefloors return.   You’ll find a variety of sounds in this list, including trippy IDM, trance, bass, house and deep, atmospheric, dubby tech sounds championed so well by local producers like Pugilist, iota, LOIF and Third Space. I’ve also included 3 V/As released by local crews this year, all of which also showcase some fantastic, diverse sounds from local producers. A few tracks among these releases are in the mix I put together for Douglas Street.   First on the list is MAC Address, who you can subscribe to for $5 a month on bandcamp and get his whole back catalogue of tracks as well as new tracks he releases monthly. I’d highly recommend it as well as all the other releases on this list. Enjoy!
