Some thoughts on things heard this year that made me dance, think, sing, do. There are many other sounds (so many), but I wanted to focus on songs that were newly released this year (or brand new to me in the case of a few things that I hadn't known about ever before but that were released earlier than this year). I also wanted to focus on stuff that I really did actually know. There are many things that struck me or that made me wonder, but I felt like I didn't return to them as much as these songs...but I may be wrong about that, actually, and kidding myself to make my list seem more coherent than perhaps life actually is. That's the thing: the construction of a "list" is a fraught thing, because so much happens just in the act of construction. Remembering, finding, putting together. I am not sure how much of the genre itself changes how you would go about organizing what you have done in the past, what the act of editing does in forcing you to decide on a particular version of what happened or what you're trying to say. Well...here we go!
