Dearest Listener, 

Episode 002 was recorded on February, 21st 2025 in Brooklyn, NYC. It was the day before this blizzard came, seemingly, out of nowhere! Between work and the work, this month has been one thing after another. I’ve barely been able to catch my breath, which in a way became the impetus for this episode. The selection is inspired by the slower moments that have replenished my vitality: the awe of seeing the Hudson River frozen over, starting to notice the faint stench of spring in the air, the sun staying out a little longer each day. 

I’ve gone one deeper into some of the trickpony energy from the last episode, but more on the jazzy// ambient tip, with songs like Rio Inverso by Fabiano Do Nascimento. I’ve also been listening to BBE's new compilation called Naive Melodies a lot, so it was hard to choose what song to play, but for this episode, I chose Born Under (More) Punches by Theo Croker. Playing that one reminded me of the importance of breath, which led me back to a Polygonia song called Essential Breath that was consistently in my rotation last year. 

In the later half of the show, playing Selfish, off the New Charlotte Day Wilson EP,  another memory took hold: one of driving around listening to Little Simz and Cleo Sol’s version of a song by that same name. Otherwise, scattered throughout the show are some thoughts on love, beauty and getting older, choreographed through the lovely Jill Scott, Yaya Bey, Gene Tellum (Love Injection Records!) and Chaka Kahn to name a few.
