In 2018, I became increasingly aware of the dangers of the streaming economy and its algorithmic playlist model. Spotify continues to spoon feed us "chill" selections, insidiously promoting passive listening under the guise of convenience. Instead of regurgitating another playlist co-signed by streaming bots, I dug deep into my library and retrieved the music that really mattered to me this year. The music that soundtracked meaningful moments for SBVRSV in 2018. To invoke the late, great Pauline Oliveros, this playlist is entitled deep listening as a call for more mindfulness in our listening habits. Now it seems more important than ever that we dictate our own listening experiences. Fuck spotify, buy music!
