This year, more than any other, I found great solace in the more introspective and contemplative music I added to my collection. With so many new and exciting artists making soothing, provocative and immersive music, it meant the wealth of colour (or lack of in some cases) and vibrant range on offer was often overwhelming in its abundance - just the way I like it.

I revelled in Ambient music with elements of classical instrumentation, guitars and strings, field recordings, piano and (notably) noise. Two particular compilations that fell into the latter sub-genre were Alternate African Reality – Electronic, electroacoustic and experimental music from Africa and the diaspora and Relatives Schoensein, which offered a range of experimental, challenging and rewarding music - both highly recommended!
